In the first meeting between Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump there were no awkward handshakes, no uncomfortable long stares. As first dates go it was kinda smooth. The U.S. leader said the NAFTA agreement between the two countries needs to be ’tweaked’. Phew, that’s a very different song than the one from the campaign trail when Trump called the North American Free Trade Agreement the ‘worst trade deal in history’. It’s a different story south of the U.S. border though – sorry Mexico. Philosophical differences aside, the P.M. and the Prez saw eye to eye – if only for a day. Hell they even launched the Canada U.S. Council for Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders, aww shucks. We sat down with lecturer William Huggins of Rotman’s School of Management to talk Trump, Trudeau and trade.
